Gruesome case of child abuse in Charlotte prompts state lawmaker to introduce new bill

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A gruesome case of child abuse in Charlotte has a state lawmakers taking action to prevent something like it from happening again.

Six-year-old Dominique Moody died in December, after being found living in feces and urine at a home in east Charlotte. She was also severely under-weight. Three women are charged in the case.

Now, Mecklenburg representative Carla Cunningham has introduced the Dominique Moody Safety Act. It would create a “child welfare escalation team” as an extra layer of review for child safety under the Department of Health and Human Services.
