CHARLOTTE, NC — The Gaston County couple that concocted a story about the wife’s disappearance so she could avoid jail time is behind bars Thursday night.  Paul Arrington turned himself in Thursday afternoon to North Myrtle Beach police.  Amy Arrington turned herself in at the Mecklenburg County jail late Wednesday night.

A judge set Amy’s bond at $500,000.  If she bonds out, she will have to wear an electronic monitor and won’t be able to leave Gaston County, where she lives.  Arrington was supposed to stand trial in Charlotte on Monday as a habitual felon.  Her husband says that’s why they lied about her possibly drowning in the ocean: to keep her out of jail.

Paul Arrington is charged with criminal conspiracy and making a false report.  He left the couple’s Gastonia home Thursday and drove himself to North Myrtle Beach.  At a hearing Thursday night, a judge set Arrington’s bond at $5,500 dollars.  In addition to older forgery and identity theft charges, Amy Arrington now faces one count of criminal conspiracy for the fake disappearance story.
