NFL offers Thanksgiving tripleheaders
UNDATED (AP) β Three games with playoff implications make up the menu of NFL’s Thanksgiving Day on tap for today and tonight.
The Cowboys host Philadelphia this afternoon, with the winner claiming sole possession of first in the NFC East. Both teams enter play with an 8-3 record.
Not only does the game feature two of the league’s top teams, but also two of the best runners.
The Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray has put together ten 100-yard games this season and leads the league with 1,354 yards. Philadelphia’s LeSean McCoy has rushed for 859 yards, fourth best in the league.
It’ll be the first of two games between the division rivals in the next 18 days.
The Seahawks and 49ers go into tonight’s game with 7-4 marks and trailing NFC West leader Arizona by two games. It’s the first of two meetings between the two in the next three weeks. Seattle is looking for banged-up running back Marshawn Lynch to bounce back after rushing for just 39 yards in 15 carries in the win over the Cardinals Sunday. He averaged 131 yards in the previous two games.
San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick (KAH’-lihn KAP’-ur-nihk) has zeroed in on receiver Anquan (AN’-kwahn) Boldin recently. He’s made at least five catches in each of the last six games, including nine for 137 yards in last week’s win over Washington.
Detroit will be trying to keep pace in the NFC Central when it hosts Chicago this afternoon. The 7-4 Lions have dropped two in a row and that’s put them a game back of Green Bay for the division lead. The 5-6 Lions are still remotely alive in the post-season picture after two straight wins.
