NORTH CAROLINA — Ride operator, Timothy Tutterrow, was arrested in connection with the NC State Fair accident.
“After inspection of the ride, we determined that it had been tampered with and critical safety devices were compromised,” Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.
Tutterrow was charged with three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury.
Five people were injured on the ride, the Vortex, and taken to WakeMed Hospital. Two were released. Anthony Gorham, Kisha Gorham and a 14-year-old person remain hospitalized.
Witnesses say the ride stopped and people were exiting the ride when it restarted.
The investigation is ongoing.
