LONG POND, Pa. (AP) β Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the lead off the final restart with three laps left and won Sunday to complete a season sweep at Pocono Raceway. Earnhardt held off the hard-charging Kevin Harvick to win for the third time this season. Earnhardt is the first driver to sweep both races at the track since Denny Hamlin in 2006.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β South Carolina tailback Mike Davis knows the NFL is on the horizon. First, though, is the chance to improve on one of the best rushing seasons in Gamecock history. Davis finished with 1,183 yards last fall, the fourth-best total in South Carolina history.
WASHINGTON (AP) β Two-time major champion Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia ended her four-year WTA title drought Sunday, beating Kurumi Nara of Japan 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the Citi Open. It was the 14th tournament victory for the 29-year-old Kuznetsova, but her first since she won at San Diego in August 2010.
BLAINE, Minn. (AP) β Kenny Perry scrambled for a birdie on the 18th hole Sunday to beat hard-charging Bernhard Langer by a stroke in the Champions Tour’s 3M Championship. Perry closed with a 7-under 65 for his second victory of the year and seventh overall on the 50-and-over tour.
