CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for a vehicle they say might have been involved in a serious accident in northwest Charlotte. On Monday, just before 10 a.m. officers were called to an accident on Brookshire Blvd. Police say Bai Yang was driving a 1998 Honda Civic in the inbound lanes when the car’s left tires ran off the road into the grass median. Yang tried to overcorrect the vehicle but lost control. The Honda slid sideways across the median into oncoming lanes. John Garner was traveling outbound in the left lane of Brookshire Boulevard when Yang’s Honda struck his 2005 Ford Expedition.
Bai Yang was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries. John Garner and his two children were also transported to CMC where they were treated and released. Detectives were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.
Witnesses on scene indicated that another vehicle may have been involved in the collision. A description of a gold or tan colored Cadillac was given to detectives and reportedly merged into the Honda’s lane of travel causing the Honda to run off into the median and lose control. It is unclear if the Cadillac and Honda made contact. The Cadillac, occupied by a driver and front seat passenger, did not remain on the scene and was last seen traveling inbound on Brookshire Boulevard. The vehicle matching the description was seen from a DOT camera at Hoskins Road and Brookshire Boulevard, two intersections from the area of the crash.
Anyone with information about this vehicle or the events of the collision is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or the Major Crash Unit at 704-432-2169.
