LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) β€” IOC member Princess Haya of Jordan has cited her relief work for Gaza as a reason not to seek re-election as International Equestrian Federation president.

Princess Haya was expected to win a third four-year term in December, when she will now also give up her Olympic position.

The princess says in a statement that recently “I have needed to put aside some of my work for the FEI to concentrate on humanitarian relief to Gaza.”

She says, “I feel that this is just the beginning.”

The princess, who has two young children with her husband, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, also cited family reasons.

She says fulfilling commitments “to humanitarian work and to raise my children with the time to love them seems truly overwhelming.”
