Charlotte Man Facing Charges For Trafficking Over $267,000 Worth Of MDMA In Iredell County
IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A 31-year-old Charlotte man is facing several charges after an attempted traffic stop in Iredell County led to the seizure of over $267,000 worth of MDMA pills Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
While working on a drug interdiction on Interstate 77, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop near mile marker 62 on a 2011 GMC Yukon with a South Carolina registration plate for traffic violations. The vehicle refused to stop for deputies and continued on the interstate before exiting on on East Memorial Highway in Union Grove leading authorities on a chase.
Deputies continued to pursue the vehicle which eventually crashed in to the woods on Jericho Road. Deputies were able to quickly apprehend the driver, identified as Oseas Munoz, into custody without incident.
According to deputies, a search of the vehicle located nearly five pounds or 2,142.88 grams of MDMA (ecstasy) pills as well as a firearm, marijuana, and $3,215 in cash. Authorities say there were around 8,000 pills, with a street value of over $267,860, that were disguised as candy in various shapes and colors.
Munoz, a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing a firearm, according to a news release. Deputies also learned that Munoz was wanted in South Carolina for felony selling a controlled substance.
Munoz was arrested and charged with felony trafficking in MDMA by possession, felony trafficking in MDMA by transportation, felony possession with intent to sell/deliver MDMA, felony possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony flee to elude, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, felony possession of firearm by felon, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, deputies say.
