COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) β The next major step in unraveling the Russian track-and-field doping scandal comes this week when leaders from the World Anti-Doping Agency gather in Colorado Springs for their annual meeting.
Among the issues to be decided is the future of Russia’s anti-doping program. Already, a WADA panel has recommended the program be decertified. WADA’s top policy making board will decide Wednesday whether to approve that recommendation.
Also on WADA’s agenda is the future of the agency itself. Many key policymakers are pushing the global anti-doping agency to be more aggressive in stopping drug cheats.
The Russian track team has been suspended because of extensive rule-breaking. WADA will have some say in whether the team is reinstated in time for next year’s Summer Olympics.
