Child Hit After Driving Go-Kart Through Busy Intersection

CHARLOTTE, NC — A child is in critical condition after a being hit while driving a Go-Kart through a busy north Charlotte intersection.

Police say 12-year-old Cierra Mitchell was driving a Go-Kart down Greene Street in north Charlotte when she ran a stop sign at the intersection of West Sugar Creek Road just before 9 o’clock Thursday evening.

While going through the intersection Mitchell was hit by a car headed south on W. Sugar Creek Rd., thrown from the Go-Kart, and hit by another car headed north on W. Sugar Creek.

Mitchell was taken to CMC with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say Mitchell was not wearing a helmet.

Nobody else was injured in the accident. Officials do not believe speed or alcohol were factors.
