MATTHEWS, N.C. – After finding a lone woman clinging to a tree in flood waters, Matthews Fire Department (MFD) administered a rescue in 20 minutes, according to MFD’s Facebook.
On January 9th at 3:28, MFD stated they were alerted to a woman that was swept away by flood waters and was clinging to a tree at Sam Newell Rd and Independence Point Parkway. They go on to explain the woman was on the downstream side of the road and was attempting to cross the road before being swept away.
Once MFD arrived on the scene, the woman was given a floatation device while a full rescue was being administered.
The Facebook post shows additional resources were requested to assist in the rescue, including a swiftwater boat crew and fire ladder. Due to changing circumstances, firefighters were forced to enter the water and make a contact swim. At 3:47, the firefighter rescued the woman and both were removed the flooded water, as said by MFD.
