Hermine Downgraded To Tropical Storm, Heavy Rains Expected
CHARLOTTE, NC — Tropical Storm Hermine is weakening while moving farther inland, but heavy rains and strong winds are still expected over the coming hours.
Currently Hermine is in southern Georgia, with sustained winds reported at 70 mph and 86 mph gusts. The storm is moving NE at about 14 mph. There is a Flash Flood Watch for Charlotte, SE through tomorrow morning. We could see upwards of 3-5″ of rain in the SE portion of the WCCB viewing area. Gusty winds this afternoon and tonight up to 30-35 mph. Power outages, and downed trees possible due to the saturated ground.
Temperatures will be a lot cooler! Highs dropping to the upper 70s today. Only light rain is expected for the Mountains and the Foothills.
A Tropical Storm Warning for the North and South Carolina Coast is in effect today. Rip currents, high surf, damaging wind, and flooding for the coast.
Conditions will drastically improve tonight. Skies will start to dry, with only a slim chance for rain into early tomorrow. Gusty winds still possible into early Saturday. Sunshine will return by Saturday afternoon, with lower humidity and warmer temps heading into Labor Day.
