Lancaster, N.C. — It’s been four nights since a shooting suspect escaped from a local sheriff’s deputy.

Monday, Deqwon Blackmon’s mother is making a plea for her son to turn himself in to the Lancaster Detention Center. He’s accused of shooting three people during an argument in Lancaster.

His mother asked WCCB News to hide her face. All the while, she wonders where her son is hiding from deputies.

“If I can get to him he, would turn himself in. I know I wouldn’t have a problem with that, because I’m gong to tell him it’s okay. No matter what, I’m gong to stand behind him.”

She was there Friday when lawmen cuffed her son. They were accusing him of being involved in a triple shooting six days earlier at the Waffle House near Highway 9. However, five hours later, investigators say he escaped as a deputy walked him into the detention center.

“I’m just hoping and praying for the best. I’m hoping he’s okay and he’s alive because you don’t just go five hours with an inmate and all the sudden say you lost him. He ran from you.”

According to his Facebook page, he is okay. He updated his status when talking about kissing his kids goodbye. His mother doesn’t think that was really him.

“No, he wouldn’t have said it like that. He would have been more in depth.”

One of his elementary school teachers reached out to Blackmon on Facebook writing in part, “I know that you may be experiencing a roller coaster of emotions. If you need me, I will go with you to turn yourself in to police custody.”

His mother says the same thing.

“I love him, and no matter what, he’s still my child.”
