Trump and Clinton Big Name Supporters Stump in Charlotte All Weekend
CHARLOTTE, NC – Because the numbers are so close, the Presidential candidates have some of their top representatives in our area all weekend.
Chelsea Clinton is just the latest in a long line of big names we’ve seen supporting Clinton in Charlotte.
She campaigned Saturday at the Music Factory, talking with members of Equality NC and the Human Rights Campaign about boosting turnout.
“I’m constantly talking to people across our country about how important it is to vote,” Clinton told the crowd.
And while early voting numbers are up in North Carolina, Democrats have reason to worry.
That’s because African-American turnout is down across the Tar Heel State.
Clinton supporters say they’re still optimistic though.
“I don’t think we’ll ever see numbers like 2008 and 2012 just because obviously you’ve got the first African-American president. The idea that you’re going to get those same numbers again are really not reasonable,” says William Wilson.
Meanwhile, in East Charlotte, members of several church organizations came together.
They want to influence the election by urging more people of faith to vote.
“We as Christians, if we want to see where there problem lies, all we need to do is go home and look in the mirror, because it’s incumbent on us to step up and start putting our values forward,” says Larry Denver with Faith and Freedom Coalition.
The political events will continue Sunday.
Trump’s running mate Mike Pence will be in Hickory, while Jon Bon Jovi will hold a concert for Hillary Clinton at the Fillmore.
