Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation Makes $100K Grant To YWCA Central Carolinas
CHARLOTTE, NC — Monday, the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation announced a $100K grant that will go to YWCA Central Carolinas to help the nonprofit preserve its 51-year-old campus.
According to a release, the renovations will include the pool, locker rooms, and gym roof. The changes will be both cosmetic and safety-related. The pool will be re-grouted and chemically cleaned, and lighting and ventilation will also be upgraded.
The YWCA hopes the upgrades will increase memberships to the fitness center, which officials say is the main revenue source for the organization.
“Our fitness center is not only helping Charlotte become healthier, it’s acting as a portal of entry for the YWCA’s mission,” said Kirsten Sikkelee, CEO of the YWCA Central Carolinas. “We are building a more understanding community by bringing together people of different ages, races, genders and economic classes, and finding new supporters is an important part of sustaining the YWCA for future generations.”
PNG and the YWCA have shared a strong partnership throughout the years, and share a commitment to health and wellness within the community.
“Piedmont Natural Gas has a history of partnering with nonprofits to build stronger, more vibrant communities,” said Timothy Greenhouse, managing director of community relations for Piedmont Natural Gas and president of the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation. “Piedmont proudly supports the YWCA because we believe in its mission, and we hope our gift inspires others to get involved so the YWCA can continue serving the Charlotte community for years to come.”
