Officials: Arson Suspected In Overnight Two-Alarm Fire In Third Ward

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A two-alarm fire completely destroyed a vacant building undergoing total renovation in Third Ward in Uptown Charlotte overnight.

A news release states that 60 firefighters were able to control the fire in 75 minutes, but the fire destroyed the building and collapsed on top of the crawlspace foundation. The two adjacent buildings suffered almost complete gutting, but both remained standing, as said in the release. They were occupied town home style buildings. The estimated property loss is $390,000

Six residents were evaluated and one was transported to a hospital.

After an investigation, Charlotte Fire investigators say the fire was intentionally set. It should be noted that the same building had a fire in it less than 24 hours ago and investigators say it was incendiary as well.

The case remains open and active and anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at 704-334-1600.
