Here Comes The Heat Wave

AM Headlines:
  • Heat Wave
  • Dangerous Heat – Feels Like Temps near 100 this weekend
  • Tropical Storm Alberto Near Landfall
  • Slightly Better Rain Chances Monday, No relief from the heat
Discussion:
High pressure will remain a dominating factor in our forecast over the next few days. We’re waking up to temps in the 60s for much of the area under mainly clear skies. Highs will once again race toward 90 this afternoon under partly to mostly sunny skies. The ridge will push further south and west as a disturbance near the FL/GA coast Friday. This won’t bring rain to the Carolinas, but it will aid in adding more moisture back into the region, making it hot and humid for the weekend as a heat wave sets up across the southeast. Highs will reach the mid 90s beginning Saturday with feels like temps near 100. Although, we might remain below heat advisory criteria, this is dangerous heat as overnight lows will not fall much below 75. This doesn’t give the body time to recover from the high heat of the day if you’re not in some sort of air conditioning. As the ridge begins to flatten, it will allow a cold front to move through the region early next week. Even though rain chances improve, Sunday into Monday with scattered showers and storms, there won’t be any relief from the heat with highs in the mid to upper 90s and overnight lows remaining in the low to mid 70s.
Tropical Storm Alberto:
It has strengthened slightly, and will make landfall this morning along the Eastern Mexico coast. Threats remain for Texas and Mexico today with heavy rain, flooding and dangerous surf for the coast. Once it makes landfall, it will rapidly weaken and dissipate by this evening.
