One Week After Fugitive’s Escape, Deputies Still Searching

Lancaster, NC–  One week has passed since a Lancaster shooting suspect escaped as a deputy he led him into prison.

Deqwon Blackmon was on his way to jail after they arrested him in connection with a triple shooting outside the Waffle House near Hwy 9.

He ran into the woods, cuffs and all, and the deputy couldn’t catch him.

Now, the Sheriff doesn’t believe Blackmon is hiding in the woods anymore. Investigators say he could be anywhere: motels, homes. They are searching for him as they would search for any wanted person. People who knew the fugitive hope he is okay.

“I encourage him to turn himself in because, like I said, the longer he waits the more trouble he’ll be in. I hate it for the boy because, growing up, he was a good kid,” said Carl Ferrill.

WCCB News spoke with Blackmon’s mother after learning of his escape. She’s now worried about her son’s health and safety.
