Summer Reclaims Carolinas

Charlotte has gone a week without measurable rainfall, and that streak will live on for a few more days.

The homestretch of August is here, and summer isn’t going down without a fight. Highs will likely crack the 90° mark in the Queen City for the first time in eight days today as sunny skies maintain their foothold in the Carolinas. The heat cranks up even further as we head deeper into the workweek. Expect mid-to-upper 90s to arrive by Wednesday as winds shift in a southwesterly direction. While humidity levels remain low this Monday afternoon, dew points will steadily rise throughout the workweek.

It’s been quite dry around the Metro over the past week – it’s been seven days since our last measurable rainfall at Charlotte Douglas. Our next shot at rain lies toward the back half of the week as a rainmaking system approaches from the northwest. Showers and storms will be isolated at best on Thursday and Friday while the severe threat appears to be low. Next weekend looks like a typical summer stretch: hot and humid with temperatures near 90° and a few afternoon storms.
