MeckDems Executive Director Resigns, Claims ‘Hostile Environment’ Led Her To Leave
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A change in leadership has hit the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party. The organization’s Executive Director, Monifa Drayton, announced her resignation in a lengthy letter Friday. WCCB obtained a copy of that letter.
In the letter Drayton claims the MeckDems allow racism and a hostile work environment that made her feel discriminated against. Drayton alleged her responsibilities as Executive Director were stripped from her and staff members were told not to speak with her. Drayton and her attorney declined to comment further.
WCCB reached MeckDems who say the organization does not comment on personal matters but is committed to a diverse work force. Drayton spent her last days with MeckDems leading canvass campaigns for the Democratic Party.
