City Council Members Discuss Affordable Housing Issues At Special Meeting

CHARLOTTE, NC — The City of Charlotte is nearly half-way to its goal of building 5000 new affordable homes in three years.

Mayor Jennifer Roberts called for a special meeting to discuss funding for more homes Monday night. The council set the goal last year as part of a promise to the public after the Keith Scott shooting.

Charlotte’s NAACP and other groups protested outside the Government Center tonight saying that leaders must do more.

Charlotte is currently planning to build 769 new housing units, which council members will vote on next month.
