Dry high pressure will linger across the region for the rest of the weekend. Irma will approach from the south late Sunday night and Monday. Wind will pick up first followed by rain chances increasing. The center of Irma is expected to cross SW Georgia on Monday and over Northern Alabama on Tuesday. Sunshine will return by the mid-week.
Irma update: Irma’s interaction with Cuba has resulted in some weakening, dropping it down to a category 3 hurricane with winds of 125mph; which is still a major hurricane. However, as Irma continues to move away from Cuba, some restrengthening is expected. The latest runs have Irma moving West at about 9 mph. The shift to the west has remained consistent. Though we will not have a direct impact from Irma, we will still experience some strong gusty winds up to 50 mph, and heavy rain across some parts of the area. We may see 2-4″ of rain possible through Tuesday, and an isolated tropical tornado cannot be ruled out; though the threat looks low.
Sunday: Sunny and nice. Windy at times. High 73. NE 10-13 mph. Gusts 20 mph.
Sunday night: Mostly cloudy and cool. Windy. Low 55. NE 11-14 mph. Gusts 20 mph.
Monday: Showers and storms. Windy. High 67. NE 16-24 mph. Gusts 37 mph.
