Department of Justice Stepping In To Help Crackdown On Salisbury Crime

SALISBURY, NC– The Department of Justice is stepping in to help crack down on the rise of violent crime in the city of Salisbury.

The DOJ says they will help police focus on three key areas to battle the uptick in violence, the move is something community activist say is long overdue.

Salisbury’s police chief said they reached out to the Department of Justice and have teamed up to put a plan in place to combat the crime.

Community activist, Chariel Dye, says she’s thrilled the city has asked the DOJ for help with the city’s crime problem.

” I think it is a very bold move and I think it’s a very brave move and I think It’s a very necessary move because we’re such a small town with such a lot of crime”

Salisbury Police Chief Jerry Stokes announced Thursday the city sent crime data to the DOJ’s office and was approved which means the Department of Justice feels they can come in, create a diagnostics center and help the city with three main areas.

“The first of those is violent crime, specifically our gun crime issue and our Opiod epidemic,””second is the clearance rate for homicides and non fatal shootings,

third the relationship between police and the community.”
