A Chilly, Wet Overnight Before a Clear and Cool Halloween Weekend

Tracking pockets of torrential rain tonight

If you’ve been hoping for a true taste of fall, you’re about to get it complete with chilly mornings, damp afternoons, and even a hint of frost potential by the weekend.

Tonight, will stay on the damp side with some areas being impacted by low visibility. The biggest batch of rain will impact the region late tonight into the overnight. While everyone will see some wet weather, the heaviest rain is expected to fall west of I-77 and into the foothills and mountain communities, where 1″ to 1.5″ of addition rainfall is likely.

For the Charlotte metro area, expect around a half inch of rain, enough to keep things damp but not disruptive. The steady clouds and cool breeze will make it feel extra chilly with overnight lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

By early Thursday, the rain finally moves out, and we’ll begin to see the first signs of clearing. Morning clouds will gradually break apart through the day, and by afternoon, some sunshine should peek through. Temperatures will rebound slightly, reaching the low to mid-60s, which will feel much more pleasant after Wednesday’s chill.

This transition marks the start of a broader pattern change that brings drier air, cooler nights, and crisp fall weather just in time for Halloween weekend.

By Friday, sunshine returns in full force. The weekend forecast is shaping up beautifully, though it will definitely feel like late October. High temperatures will stay in the low to mid-60s, while overnight lows tumble into the upper 30s and low 40s. That’s about 5 to 10 degrees below average for this time of year, a clear signal that fall has fully taken hold.

If you’re making plans for Halloween night, conditions look ideal: clear skies, light winds, and crisp air. Temperatures will fall quickly after sunset, so if your costume doesn’t include layers, you might want to plan ahead. Trick-or-treaters will need jackets or sweaters over their costumes, and parents may appreciate a cup of something warm in hand.

First Taste of True Autumn Cold

The cooler air this weekend could also bring the first sub-40° morning of the season for Charlotte, especially early Saturday. Mountain areas will likely dip into the 30s as well, with patchy frost possible in sheltered valleys. It’s a gentle reminder that we’re heading toward November, when chilly mornings and cool afternoons become the norm.
