CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Novant Health is limiting visitation in all but one acute care facility effective 7 a.m. on January 12, to protect the health of the patients.
The one medical center not impacted at this time is Novant Health UVA Health System Culpeper Medical Center in Virginia. When initiated, no visitors 12 and under will be allowed in our acute care facilities.
This applies to any children who are visiting patients, including siblings, friends or family members. It does not apply to children who are seeking care.
Children also will be restricted from attending classes in or touring the hospitals. These steps are being taken in partnership with our colleagues at Carolinas HealthCare System, Cone Health, High Point Regional Health, Randolph Health and Wake Forest Baptist Health, who will also be instituting visitor restrictions.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the North Carolina and Virginia state health departments have reported an increase in the number of cases of influenza-like illness in our communities. Given the increased prevalence of flu in our communities, we are committed to doing everything we can to protect the health and well-being of all patients.
There are two exceptions to our visitation policy:
1. Emergency department adult patients who may need to bring their children with them.
2. End-of-life care patients – children will be allowed to visit friends and relatives who are at end-of-life.
Novant Health will reevaluate the restrictions on a regular basis as data from the CDC and our communities becomes available.
