Community Honors Charlotte Paramedic Killed During Domestic Dispute
CONCORD, NC — Friday, a community saluted a Charlotte paramedic killed in a devastating case of domestic violence.
Rebekah Hart O’Sullivan died last Thursday when police say her husband, Patrick O’Sullivan shot her at their Concord home. Nearly 300 people attended her funeral Friday, and more than 300 people watched it on livestream online.
The Charlotte medic supervisor worked the past seven years in Charlotte. She was a mom of four children. She lived with her family in Concord until police say her husband Patrick shot her there just after 7:30 in the evening eight days ago.
“Especially as paramedics, we realize we aren’t promised another minute,” said Medic Deputy Director Kevin Staley.
Cars lined Concord Parkway as paramedics and first responders led her casket to the church Friday evening.
“We have a remarkable lady to hold in our hearts,” said Staley.
Coworkers say she dedicated her life to serving the people of Mecklenburg County.
Before becoming a paramedic, she was in the Army.
Medic says her murder left an empty space in the hearts of employees, family and friends.
“Our place is to love a family that hurts,” said Rev. Alan Thompson, EMS director, Cabarrus County.
They honored her tonight along with her legacy of giving, her career as a rescuer, and her life as a mother.
Police found her husband in Concord Saturday morning after the shooting. His next court date is February 1. He’s charged with 1st degree murder.
