Record heat today and tomorrow

Tracking record-breaking temperatures

Leave the jacket at home as you head out the door this morning. Record-breaking temperatures are likely in the Queen City today as temperatures soar towards the low to mid 80s. This should clear the record high of 82 set back in 1974. Sunshine will be ample, although don’t rule out a stray shower or storm. This will be the warmest temperatures we’ve seen since last fall, so dress accordingly! Overnight clouds will become slightly more widespread before another warm day on Wednesday.

Wednesday afternoon will feature partly cloudy skies and more record heat. Highs will once again surge into the mid 80s and another record high will likely be set. So if you can’t find time to get outside and enjoy today, tomorrow will be even warmer. By Wednesday night, the pattern changes as our next weather maker approaches from the west.

A cold front will push east towards the Carolinas overnight Wednesday. This looks to arrive to our viewing area during the early morning hours of Thursday. This could pack a punch with heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. The timing will be important for the extent of severe weather chances. The earlier it arrives, the better as the atmosphere will still be stable in the morning hours. If it holds off until the afternoon, then we could see a larger severe threat.

After the line moves through, temperatures come back to only slightly above average on Friday. We then continue to warm back up into the weekend where as of now, sunshine looks plentiful through Saturday!
