CMS Requests $40 Million Budget Increase From County
CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools wants 40 million more dollars from the county.
The CMS board unanimously approved Superintendent Clayton Wilcox’s budget, and the district presented its $1.6 billion request to county commissioners today.
The $40 million increase includes a supplement to pay teachers more. The county traditionally funds CMS with about 47% of the overall county budget.
Jim Puckett, (R) Mecklenburg County Commission, says, “CMS can then decide how they want to allocate those funds. If they want to give teacher raises with those funds, that’s fine. If they want to give board of education member raises, that’s fine. If they want to put it into special projects, that’s fine. That’s not my call.”
County commissioners will vote on a budget June 19th.
