Electric Scooters Returning To Charlotte Next Week

CHARLOTTE, NC — A warning from city leaders to be smart when it comes to electric scooters, because they will be back on the streets starting Monday.

The city has approved a shared mobility pilot program, which will allow Lime, Bird and Spin to roll out 100 scooters. Riders can rent them through the companies’ apps.

The program runs through October.

Friday night, City Council members said people need to be careful when riding them.

Larken Egleston, (D) Charlotte City Council, says, “People need to realize these things go 15 miles an hour and they are fun, but they can also be dangerous not only for the person riding them but for pedestrians or cyclists or motorists trying to avoid them.”

Riders are not required to wear a helmet.

Lime had scooters in Charlotte, but they were pulled last week because the city had not approved them yet.
