BEIJING (AP) β€” Prosecutors in Beijing say police have formally arrested the son of film star Jackie Chan on suspicion of allowing other people to take drugs.

The Dongcheng District prosecutor’s office made the announcement about actor Jaycee Chan on its official Sina Weibo microblog Wednesday.

In China, police need official approval from prosecutors to formally arrest a suspect. Police can then continue to investigate and decide to criminally charge him. A trial would then follow. The maximum sentence is three years’ imprisonment.

Jaycee Chan was detained on Aug. 14 along with Taiwanese actor Ko Kai.

Ko was given a sentence of 14 days in administrative detention after he admitted using marijuana.
