Motorcyclist hospitalized, 2 arrested following high-speed pursuit, crash in Monroe

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash and two others were arrested after evading police at over 100 miles per hour, according to the Monroe Police Department.

On Saturday, officers were on East Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe when they saw three motorcyclists driving in a reckless manner, police said.

When the officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcyclists allegedly fled from the officers at over 100 miles per hour while weaving through traffic.

The pursuit was called off, but police said one of the three that fled was involved in a motorcycle accident near Woodbrook Lane shortly after. Investigators said they believe the motorcyclist lost control, resulting in the crash.

That motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police said they located the other two abandoned motorcycles on a nearby street. The riders, 24-year-old Wilson Mondragon-Betancurth and 20-year-old Hector Carillo, fled on foot but were quickly arrested by officers.

Mondragon-Betancurth and Carillo have each been charged with felony flee to elude arrest, failing to stop for blue lights and siren, no operator’s license, and no motorcycle endorsement. Both of their motorcycles were seized.
