Scattered Showers Ahead of Hurricane Michael Impacts
Hurricane Michael Latest:
Hurricane Michael is a category 2 storm located about 395 mi S of Panama City. It is moving NNW at 12 mph with sustained winds of 100 mph and a central pressure of 968 mb. This storm will likely strengthen into a Major Cat 3 storm before making landfall late Wednesday near Panama City Beach Wednesday afternoon. This could be the strongest hurricane to make landfall in this part of the Emerald Coast in more than a century. Hurricane Warnings stretch from the FL/AL border through the FL panhandle. 4-8″ of rain with isolated amounts up to 12″ of rain possible for Florida and Georgia. Storm Surge Warnings in place with 8-12′ storm surge from Indian Pass to Cedar Key. The biggest threat with this storm will be the storm surge and potential flooding for the coast and inland. This storm will move rapidly to the NE once it makes landfall – this puts us to the north and east of the storm — a good spot to be in relatively speaking. We have the potential to see 2-4″ of rain which could cause flash flooding. But, the wind, tornado threat looks to be minimal for the region.
