CHARLOTTE, NC — The Carolina Panthers paid respects and honored the 11 victims of a recent synagogue shooting during their trip to Pittsburgh Thursday night.
Before the game, the Panthers paid their respects to the Tree of Life congregation by delivering flowers to the synagogue where 11 of its members lost their lives during an attack on October 27th.
The team tweeted a picture with the caption, “With these flowers we extend our deepest sympathies to the Tree of Life congregation in Pittsburgh.”
Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton also wore a special set of cleats during the Thursday night game at Heinz Field. The cleats were dedicated to the memory of the lives lost during that terrible tragedy.
The black and gold cleats were emblazoned with the phrase “Stronger Than Hate,” and also included the words “Hatred can’t weaken the city of steel.” The Steelers famous three-star logo was also included on the side of the shoe, which incorporated the Star of David.
The attack on October 27th is considered to be the deadliest attack on the Jewish Community in U.S. history. 11 people lost their lives that day while attending the Saturday service, and six others were injured.
