UNDATED (AP) β€” The American League and National League Central titles remain undecided after the two contenders in each division lost on Saturday.

The Tigers continue to top the AL Central by a game over Kansas City after Eduardo Escobar went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and six RBIs in Minnesota’s 12-3 drubbing of Detroit. Brian Dozier added a solo shot and two RBIs for the Twins, who’ve outscored the Tigers 23-7 the last two nights.

St. Louis still leads the NL Central by a game over Pittsburgh following the Cardinals’ 5-2 loss at Arizona. Mark Trumbo led the Diamondbacks attack with a pair of homers and four RBIs. The game was tied 2-2 until Trumbo’s three-run blast in the seventh sent the Redbirds to their fourth loss in seven games.

The Bucs blew a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning before Ramon Santiago launched a grand slam in the bottom of the 10th to give Cincinnati a 10-6 win over Pittsburgh. Todd Frazier tied it with a two-run blast and scored seven runs as the Reds handed the Pirates just their fifth loss in 22 games.

GOLF-RYDER CUP

Europe in control

GLENEAGLES, Scotland (AP) β€” Europe has put itself in great position to win the Ryder Cup for the eighth time in 10 tries.

The Europeans took 3 Β½ of a possible four points in foursomes play at Gleneagles, Scotland, on Saturday to grab a 10-6 lead through two days of play. Europe needs to claim just four of 12 points in Sunday’s singles play to retain the Cup.

The Americans pulled within 6 Β½ to 5 Β½ by winning two matches and halving another in the Saturday morning fourballs matches. But Jordan Spieth (speeth) and Patrick Reed prevented Europe from sweeping the foursomes, one day after the Europeans took 3 Β½ of a possible four points in the event. Saturday’s biggest foursomes rout belonged to Victor Dubuisson and Graeme McDowell, who whipped Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler, 5 and 4.

The most impressive performance of the day came from Europeans Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson in the first fourballs match. They carded 10 straight birdies and 12 of 16 holes to complete a 3 and 2 win over Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar (KOO’-chur). The Americans dropped the match despite nine birdies.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson benched Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley for both sessions Saturday, even though both wanted to play. Mickelson and Bradley rallied to take down Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia in the opening session of fourballs matches on Friday, but they lost badly in foursomes. Mickelson will play only three matches this week, his fewest since going 3-0 as a rookie at Oak Hill in 1995.

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) β€” John Cook shot a 4-under 68 at Pebble Beach to take a one-stroke lead over Tom Byrum and Skip Kendall through two rounds of the Champions Tour’s First Tee Open.

Murray wins 1st title in 15 months

SHENZHEN, China (AP) β€” Second-seeded Andy Murray of Britain rallied from a set down to defeat fourth-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain, 5-7, 7-6 (9), 6-1 on Sunday to win the Shenzhen Open.

Murray saved five match points as he ended a 15-month title drought while improving his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals in London in November.

Murray trailed 2-6 in the second set tiebreaker against Robredo, but the Spaniard squandered five match points.

It was Murray’s first title since his triumph at Wimbledon in July 2013 and his 29th tour-level victory.

NBA-76ers/CARTER-WILLIAMS

Reigning rookie of the year Carter-Williams not sure when he’ll play again

DOVER, Del. (AP) β€” Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams is unsure when he’ll return to play following offseason shoulder surgery.

The NBA rookie of the year had surgery in May to repair the labrum of his right shoulder. Sixers coach Brett Brown said Carter-Williams has not been cleared to play for the start of training camp on Tuesday.

Carter-Williams was only the third player since 1950-51 to lead all rookies in scoring (16.7), rebounding (6.3) and assists (6.2), averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 boards and 6.2 helpers. Oscar Robertson and Alvan Adams are the other players to accomplish the feat.
