It’s an issue that’s always at the forefront of education, but new numbers show seven of the 25 worst-paying cities for high school teachers are right here in North Carolina.

Here’s how it breaks down: Winston-Salem ranked number 24 out of the 25 cities.  High school teachers there make an average salary of about $43,500.  In Asheville, about $43,000.  In Burlington, about $42,000.  In Wilimington, $41,000.  And in Fayetteville, Rocky Mount and Hickory, high school teachers there make an average salary of about $40,000.

We did some digging and found the average salary for a high school teacher in America, in 2012 was $55,050.

And that brings us to our Question of the Night: What could the state do without to pay teachers more?
