CHARLOTTE, NC —   A four month old girl not strapped into her car seat, killed in a tragic car accident.

The man behind the wheel is in jail facing several charges, but the little girl’s family is not blaming him for her death.

“I miss her. I miss her so much,” says the little girl’s father Javon Johnson. “Everything happens for a reason.”

When asked what she would tell her little girl, Kayla Davis said, “I miss my baby, but she’s in a better place…and that Mommy loves her.”

A mother and father mourning their little girl.  Friends, family, even complete strangers, building a shrine where a life was lost too soon.

Police say that Thabiti Pierre-Louis was driving down Old Statesville Road, trying to pass a vehicle in front of him, when he lost control of his car. The car skidded off the road and ended up hitting a telephone pole. The impact broke the pole in half.

The vehicle flipped over. Four month old Londyn Johnson was thrown from the vehicle, and died when it landed on top of her.

Police say Pierre-Louis was driving under the influence. He’s charged with Death by Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Possession of Marijuana and Child Neglect.

There were five adults and teens in the the Nissan Altima. Londyn’s uncle Anthony Johnson was in the back seat.

“We were coming from down the street, so it wasn’t really like we needed a car seat,” says Johnson. “But it wasn’t enough room, so someone had to hold her. But it was a mistake.”

The family is trying to come to terms with this tragedy, but they’re not blaming the man behind the wheel. Londyn’s father Javon Johnson says Pierre-Louis is his best friend, and loved his baby girl.

“That was her baby-sitter for eight hours, nine hours out of a day, every day. He would never mean for something like this to happen, man. He made a mistake, man, and I hate to see a good person go through something like this,” says Johnson.

Thabiti Pierre-Louis is in the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $155,500 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
