KANNAPOLIS, NC — A local veteran, injured while on patrol in Afghanistan, has a new wheelchair-accessible house.
Sergeant Drew Mullee and his family received the keys to the donated home in Kannapolis today. Mullee lost his leg during an IED explosion in Afghanistan in 2012. In addition to having wheelchair ramps, the four-bedroom home also has wider doors and hallways.
“It’s always good when you have somebody that says, ‘Thank you for your service,’ and to have a hundred, hundred and fifty people here to say it. With the fire department and big flag, it’s absolutely amazing,” said Mullee.
Helpingahero.org and the Patriot Charities built the specially-designed house. It’s the fourth donated to veterans in North Carolina.
