New Study: Pandemic Creating Problems In The Bedroom For Married Couples

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on everything in some way, even in the bedroom of married couples. A new study from the Kinsey Institute surveyed 1,500 married people, and more than half reported that their sex life has been on the decline since spring of last year.

That’s due to stress, blurred boundaries, and technology. We asked a local expert to explain. Jessica McCall is a relationship therapist and owner of The Haven in SouthPark. She says, “(Couples) are losing that boundary to be present, to slow down, to connect with one another and have intimacy. We’re driven for connection, meaningful conversation and touch, but for many, the pandemic has thrown off a balance for another human need. We also have a need for freedom, separateness, and solitude. And with couples spending so much time together, that balance is being sort of thrown off.”

McCall also says people should try and get back into their pre-pandemic hobbies, that way they can have some positive distance and conversation starters.

Our question of the night: how has the pandemic impacted your relationship?
