Detectives with the Cornelius Police Department charged 22-year-old Rymyr Quarles for murder after a man was killed in the toll lanes of I-77 on Thursday.
The man found dead has been identified as 34-year-old Brandon Hedrick, according to a news release.
The Cornelius Police Department thanks the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for their help in this case.

CORNELIUS, N.C. — According to officials, a driver was found dead in a SUV in the southbound toll lane on Interstate 77 near mile marker 26. The original call came in just after 6:30 a.m on Thursday for a possible stranded vehicle. Highway Patrol Troopers say upon arrival they saw the vehicle had minor damage and that’s when they found the male unresponsive inside the vehicle.
Cornelius Police has since confirmed for WCCB the victim suffered a gunshot wound.
Police have not released the name of the man. This is still an active investigation.
The toll lane from exit 28 is closed at this time.
