Simona Halep (HAL’-ehp) and Sabine Lisicki (sah-BEEN’ lih-SIH’-kee) also won their fourth-round matches, while Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova (kuh-VIT’-oh-vuh) moved into the semifinals with straight-sets victories. And the Williams sisters had to withdraw after three games in their second-round doubles match due to what was called a viral illness that affected Serena’s coordination.

CLEVELAND (AP) β€” Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert has tweeted that the team and guard Kyrie (ky-REE’) Irving have agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension. Neither side announced the terms, but several outlets reported that it is a maximum deal worth about $90 million.

UNDATED (AP) β€” The NHL free-agent signing period began Tuesday with goaltender Ryan Miller going to Vancouver, forward Paul Stastny (STAS’-nee) accepting a deal with St. Louis, Minnesota landing forward Thomas Vanek and Washington inking defensemen Brooks Orpik and Matt Niskanen. Dallas picked up two forwards, signing Ales Hemsky (AL’-ehsh HEHM’-skee) and acquiring Jason Spezza (SPET’-suh) from Ottawa.
