Tanaka wins 12th…Early baseball in the Nation’s Capital today

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β€” Masahiro Tanaka (mah-sah-HEE’-roh tan-NAH’-kah) is the major league’s first 12-game winner after hurling the New York Yankees to a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Twins to start an 11-game road trip on a winning note. Tanaka went seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits, and improved his record to 12-3.

DENVER (AP) β€” Max Scherzer allowed two hits in eight outstanding innings, and the Detroit Tigers backed their star right-hander with three early homers in an 8-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Ian Kinsler, Victor Martinez and Torii Hunter all went deep for the Tigers, who’ve won 12 of 14.

WASHINGTON (AP) β€” There will be an early Independence Day baseball celebration today in the Nation’s Capital. The Washington Nationals, riding a season-long five-game winning streak, celebrate the Fourth of July with an 11:05 (Eastern time) first pitch against the Chicago Cubs.
