  • Studio Movie Grill Is Redefining Movie Nights

    Related Image

If you haven’t been to Studio Movie Grill in the Epicenter yet, it’s about time you make a date of it! I remember the days as a kid when we had to wait in long lines, maneuver around the crowds with our arms filled with treats, and wrestle around those previously seated.
When the idea of a movie theater came to be in the early 1900s, it was a big event. People dressed up and made a night of it. By the 1980s, movie theaters became commercialized and a lot less fancy. When I think of a date night now, I hardly ever think of going to a movie.
Studio Movie Grills are redefining the “dine-in” movie experience. Their theaters have changed the idea of going to the movies drastically.  Once you are seated in your plush chair, a server will take your order like any restaurant. Your food is brought to you, and you have the option to buzz your server during the movie if you need service.
Not only do they offer a wide variety of the latest...

  • The Upper Deck at Brevard Court

Now that the Knights Stadium is the center attraction in the city for the spring, Brevard Court is bustling with fans and locals looking to grab a beer and food outside. There are plenty of hot spots there including Valhalla, Hooligans and The French Quarter. Now they all welcome the newest arrival, “The Upper Deck”.

This location has so much charm and character and of course great drink specials! Hidden next to the entrance of Hooligans is a small stairway which leads you to The Upper Deck on the right hand side. The windows are open out to the street below and the bar wraps around with plenty of space to order your drink. Plus if you get hungry they have a great $6 special which includes any beer, a snack and a hot dog. Not a bad way to start before heading out to watch the Knights.

You can also head out that way and grab a drink after work for great Happy Hour specials. The proximity to the center of Uptown and the space inside makes it a great place...

As an avid lover of Mexican food, hitting Vida Cantina in the Epicenter was a no brainer. Allured by the promise of homemade guacamole, fish tacos, and a giant margarita, Vida Cantina was a safe haven in the bustle of Uptown.
If you’re trying to beat the Monday blues like I was, I suggest heading to Vida Cantina and checking out their lunch special. Offering a variety of “pick 2” options, you can mix and match for days without getting sick of options. After a margarita and snacking on chips, and gabbing with a few good friends, my Monday blues were cured.

If you’re looking for a place to brunch, Vida also offers a special selection on Saturdays and Sundays. Unique menu items such as Smoked Salmon Tacos and Mexican Hot Chocolate make this restaurant both group and family friendly.

  • Review: Ri Ra's Irish Pub

    Related Image

Ri Ra’s mission statement states that “Ri Ra” means a place or state where exhuberance and revelry prevail: where music and merriment compete and conversation flows smooth”.
Upon entering this well known Irish Pub in the First Ward of Uptown, you are faced with the decision to travel up the stairs to the bar and rooftop patio, or head straight to the first bar on ground floor.
If you’re headed for lunch or an early afternoon beverage, we suggest you head to the bar on ground floor. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and the beverage specials you can’t beat. They’re known for their traditional Irish options, such as their shepard’s pie (which we highly suggest). The first bar at ground floor is your traditional Irish pub setting; eat, drink, and be merry. Chat with a stranger, and you’ve made a new best friend for life.
For the night owl, the upper level is always filled with excitement. Induldge in those...

  • CRAVE-ing For A Girl's Night Out

By Wednesday morning, my mindset is looking straight onward to the weekend. Sure, you go out for a drink or two on Wednesday or Thursday, but responsbilities and the knowledge that you have to be up early in the morning truly prevents you from being able to relax and have that cocktail. By the time 5pm on Friday hits, all I want to do is enjoy a cocktail with my girls and unwind from the week prior.
As a recent newbie to Charlotte, I have been hearing about the “ultimate chick spot” aka Crave Dessert Bar for months. After the week I had, I decided to check it out on a Thursday night with a gal pal since I couldn’t resist the lure of Crave one more day. I wasn’t disappointed.
From chocolate confectionary treats, peanut butter pies, savory apps, and their large array of mixed martinis, Crave Dessert Bar is what I needed. It’s like the Willy Wonka Factory for adults, minus the option of turning into a Violet Blueberry.
