3 suspected copper thieves arrested one week after CMPD officer is hurt trying to capture them

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Three suspected copper thieves have been arrested one week after a CMPD officer was hurt trying to stop them.

48-year-old Edward Wright, 24-year-old Shermon Brown and 37-year-old Eric Clay are facing several charges including possession of stolen goods and first degree trespass.

Clay is also charged with assault on a government official.

Officers say they arrived to find them stealing copper wire on Robinson Circle in north Charlotte last Tuesday morning. An officer was injured as the suspects fled the scene. That officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was released the same day.
