DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) β Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile is steeping out from behind his desk and getting behind the wheel. The superspeedway’s first-year leader will drive a 3,300-pound stock car Saturday in a celebrity competition at Dillon Motor Speedway. Wile is among several area leaders racing at the track, a paved oval of about four-tenths of a mile.
HOOVER, Ala. (AP) β Auburn coach Gus Malzahn says Nick Marshall will “suffer the consequences” but declined to elaborate on the punishment the quarterback will face after he was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana following a traffic stop in Georgia. Marshall was pulled out of Monday’s SEC media days appearance, three days after the senior received a ticket in Reynolds, Georgia.
ATLANTA (AP) β Georgia forward Brandon Morris has been kicked off the basketball team following his arrest on a marijuana charge. The Athens-Clarke County Jail said Monday he was arrested early Sunday and later posted bond. He was charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
ALBANY, Ga. (AP) β The first black woman to win an Olympic gold medal, Alice Coachman Davis, has died at age 90 in south Georgia. Davis’ daughter, Evelyn Jones, says her mother died Monday morning in Albany.
