Ferrell’s Fiancee: Chief Monroe Promised Copy of Dash Cam Video

This video is no longer available.
CHARLOTTE, NC – “I think it was unjustified what happened to him that night,” says Jonathan Ferrell’s fiancee Cachè Heidel.
Heidel has seen the dash cam video. She says it shows Ferrell was not a threat to officers.
“You hear a cop, don’t know which one, but you hear them say, stop it, literally milliseconds after that, you hear the gun shots go off,” she explains.
Ferrell crashed his car, and apparently tried to get help at a nearby home. The woman inside mistook him for a burglar and called 911.
When police arrived, they say Ferrell charged at them. Officer Randall Kerrick shot Ferrell 10 times. He’s charged with voluntary manslaughter.
“What is apparent is that he did not have a weapon, he was not acting erratic, he was not aggressive, he did not say anything threatening,” says Ferrell family attorney Chris Chestnut.
The family and Chestnut say Chief Rodney Monroe promised to give them a copy of the dash cam video.
But a spokesperson for the department tells WCCB they will not be releasing that video because it’s not open to the public record.
Spokesperson Rob Tufano went on to say, “CMPD would not provide dash cam video or the majority of what the Chestnut firm has requested when there is an open and pending criminal case.”
Ferrell’s fiancee is disappointed.
“What was said in that room when we saw the video, he hasn’t honored. And it makes me a little skeptical about, you know, about whether or not they’re going to be carrying out this case with equity, whether they’re going to be honorable,” she says.
CMPD says it’s up to the Attorney General’s office.. which is prosecuting the case.. to release the video.
We wanted to ask the Chief directly if he made that promise to release the dash cam video. We’re told he’s out of town and won’t be back until later this week.
