NEW YORK (AP) β€” David Price pitched for the first time as a member of the Tigers last night. He struck out 10 in 8 2/3 innings of work, allowing three runs and eight hits. He wasn’t around for the decision, but the Tigers got the win in 12 innings, 4-3.

LOS ANGELES (AP) β€” The battle of Los Angeles continued last night with the Dodgers beating the Angels 5-4. The host Dodgers got the win on a throwing error by third baseman David Freese (freez) of the Angels in the bottom of the ninth. The Dodgers top the NL West by 2 Β½ games over San Francisco while the Angels are two games behind Oakland for the AL West lead.

PITTSBURGH (AP) β€” The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Brandon Sutter. He’s been given a two-year package worth $6.6 million. The 25-year-old had 13 goals and 13 assists in 81 games for the Penguins in 2013-14 and set a career high with five postseason goals.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) β€” When the PGA Championship starts tomorrow a former champion won’t be taking part. Former winner David Toms has withdrawn from the last major of the year because of a back injury. Toms won the PGA Championship in 2001, beating Phil Mickelson by one shot.
