CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is hiring 75 seasonal lifeguards to work at its aquatic facilities.
The facilities include the newly remodeled Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center which opens June 1, and the Ramsey Creek Park Swim Beach which opens Memorial Day Weekend.
Experienced swimmers and individuals with any lifeguard certification are encouraged to apply at Ray’s Splash Planet, 215 N. Sycamore Street. Pay starts at $11.09 an hour.
Anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard can enroll in Park and Recreation’s Free Climb (Climb, Laps, Invest, Merit, Begin) swim clinics and a lifeguard training program. You must be 16-years-old to be considered for employment with Mecklenburg County.
The free clinics are held at Ray’s Splash Planet on Monday and Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., from September to May. Potential lifeguards can practice their skills and complete a required pre-lifeguard swim test. Participants must sign a CLIMB honor agreement and be approved by an aquatic supervisor with intent to become a lifeguard.
Marion Diehl Pool also offers a Lifeguard Training Program at a cost of $165. The program covers water rescue techniques, team lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR and AED (defibrillator) certifications. Individuals who complete the course will receive a Starfish Aquatics Institute Lifeguard license (StarGuard) and have the opportunity to apply for a lifeguard position with Mecklenburg County Park And Recreation.
