Local Teen Back With Family After Facing Deportation

CHARLOTTE, NC– A Charlotte teen who spent months facing deportation is back with his family tonight.

Yefri Sorto spent was released from Georgia prison this week after his family posted a $30,000 bond. Immigration agents arrested the the West Mecklenburg High School student in January as he walked to his school bus stop.

Congresswoman Alma Adams says Sorto’s case illustrates the need to reform our nation’s immigration laws.

“Yefri and others belong in study hall. He belongs in school. Not in a detention center with criminals,” said Adams

Adams says she and several other members of Congress are sending a letter to Homeland Security Director Jeh Johnson about what they call aggressive tactics taken by ICE agents.
