NEW YORK (AP) β€” Fans of the musical “Pippin” will get a special treat this weekend in Denver: They’ll get to see two Pippins for the price of one.

Matthew James Thomas, who originated the role in the Tony Award-winning revival on Broadway, will team up with John Rubinstein, who was the first Broadway Pippin in 1972 and now plays Pippin’s father.

Thomas stepped in at the last minute when the tour’s Pippin grew ill. Thomas was on vacation in Malta when he was asked to fly in and save the day. He had left the Broadway cast in March.

The show is on a tour that will take it to over 20 states in the next year, including stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, Baltimore and Dallas.
