Charlotte woman grateful to be alive after bullets fly through her home
CHARLOTTE, NC – A Druid Hills resident is grateful to be alive after her home was riddled with bullets Tuesday night.
Kathryn Nordone slept through the shooting Tuesday around 10:30pm, but woke up early Wednesday morning and learned gunfire flew through her walls. She counted at least 20 bullet holes in her house on Druid Circle. The bullets pierced walls, furniture and even a pillow in a bedroom.
“[Police] could have been responding to a homicide this morning, I could have been killed last night,” Nordone said. “Not knowing why this happened is terrifying because this is my home. I should feel safe here.”
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Crime Mapping tool shows there have been several crimes reported involving drugs and guns within a mile radius of Nordone’s home between March 1st to April 21st. The Druid Hills neighborhood is near Camp North End, a booming area of development. Nordone wants to see more police presence in the area.
“The last thing anyone is going to want to do is move their family into an area where homes are being shot into on a Tuesday night during the week and this area has been is being ignored,” Nordone said.
She’s grateful to be alive, but no longer feels safe in her home. She wants to see police step up patrols and developers take an interest in the public safety of the communities where they invest.
“Regardless of where it is in Charlotte. If this is something that’s been happening, then I think that CMPD needs to maybe it more seriously,” Nordone said.
WCCB reached out to CMPD about this particular case. We have not heard back. According to CMPD’s annual crime report, there were at least 932 ‘shootings into occupied dwellings’ in 2024. CMPD launched SWITCH pilot program to devote more resources and investigators to solving these types of cases.
